receive life

In today’s Gospel, in reply to a young man’s searching question,

“Tell me, what must I do to receive life?” (S Mark 10:17) –

Jesus teaches us that God is worth more than any thing or any one else in our lives.

Because He looks on the young man and loves what He sees, Jesus is carefully building faith in someone for whom he cares greatly: faith in God and faith in Him. So he pursues the matter to its core …

He tells the rich young man what the ultimate step of faith would be for him. He says,

“You are lacking in one thing.
Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor
and you will have treasure in heaven;
then come, follow me.” (S Mark 10:21)

The man has already admitted to keeping all the commandments – and then Jesus accelerates it to selling off all his possessions!

“At that statement (the man’s) face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.” (S Mark 10:22)

However much you have not let go of, that much will stall your journey to the highest value there is in life, the journey into God.

God is worth more than any thing or any one else in our lives.

And what if you were that man?

Jesus is standing, watching you now as you read this; and as He looks, He loves you. Can you stand it? Can you gradually let go of those things that thwart your ability to be loved into putting Him first in your life?

…….  Or must you go away sad?

Think about it ….

God is worth more than any thing or any one else in our lives.
