Look upon me, good and gentle Jesus, while before this Crucifix
I gaze on Your loving face,
and with burning soul I pray and beseech You
to fix deep in my heart living, real and over-spilling faith, hope, and love,
true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment;
while I contemplate with great love and tender pity Your five wounds,
pondering over them within me, and calling to mind the words
which, long ago, David the prophet spoke in Your own person concerning You, my Jesus:
“They have pierced My hands and My feet; they have numbered all My bones.”
Pause for silent reflection.
Then you may like to kiss the Crucifix and end with these words of praise:
I venerate Your Cross, O Christ, and Your holy Resurrection I glorify, for by means of your Holy Cross joy has come into the world, alleluia!
