God sees you – and God cares

This is the essential message of Mothering Sunday.

On the Fourth Sunday of Lent, we ‘take a break’ from the ‘rigours’ (!) of the Forty Days and find ‘refreshment’ in God’s care for us.

Traditionally, in the UK, we think of three levels of ‘Mothering’ on Lent IV

LEVEL 1:

Mother as in the ‘woman who brought us to birth’

LEVEL 2:

Mother as in the Church as a nurturing Community of Faith

LEVEL 3:

Mother as in Mary the Mother of Jesus

Common to each is a central emphasis on seeing and caring

Crucial to the adventure of Christian Faith is

God as the One who most truly sees us and cares for us

The challenge for us is so to know ourselves (in all circumstances)

to be seen and cared for by God

that those whose lives come into contact with ours will

(through being truly seen and cared for by us)

come to know the God who sees and cares for every one of us.
